Now that I’ve been made an Admin, I thought I’d do a report that highlights some of the big changes/achievements within the Wiki.
I find it a little hard to believe that it’s only been a little over a month since Wizards Unite was launched worldwide!
New Colour Scheme
You may have noticed the Wiki now has a new colour scheme. This is to reduce eye-strain for people that spend a lot of time here coding, and so that the Wiki reflects the colour scheme used within the game.
There was a brief moment that the Wiki was taken over by The Stepford Wives and the colour pink invaded the Wiki in some forms and tables, however with the help of Ferthi (one of Fandom’s fabulous Content Team Members), this has been corrected and the pink has been banished.
Pages that show a table of data for several related items (eg. Foundables, Potions, etc) are now dynamic tables. This means that when the page is loaded the table pulls data from the Infoboxes of those types of items and constructs the table as the page loads.
If you see data in a table that isn’t correct, you will need to change the data in the Infobox on that specific item’s page, not the table. Once you go to that item’s page and update the data, the information will now update site-wide.
Much thanks must go to FMF for making these fabulous tables for us. He doesn’t even play the game, but has taken the time to help us out because he’s a fellow gamer and is awesome. I’m still hoping that after doing all this work for us that maybe he’ll give the game a go and fall in love with it as much as we have (I dare to dream). Regardless, I’m very grateful for his assistance.
If you know how to use Java Script and would be willing to help created Dynamic Tables for this wiki, please speak up!
This was a really important thing to get set up right from the start as it means everyone can be contributing content in the same way.
If you have any experience working on Style Guides and would like to help expand on what we have so far, please speak up!
To Do List
Sometimes people are willing to help but they don’t know where to start or what they can/should do; that’s where our To Do List comes in. This will (hopefully) be updated all the time with things that need doing.
Some things will be really simple: Add all [blah] pages to the [blah] Category.
Some things will be more complex, like creating a template.
Whether you’re a Wiki Coding expert or a novice that is willing to help, there is something you can do to help this wiki to grow.
This Wiki will now award Badges to contributors. Every time you interact within the Wiki your activity will most likely be going towards you earning a new Badge. Just like Achievements in the game, the first level of Badges are super quick and easy to get, but it’s the Gold Badges that take time and dedication to get.
At some point I hope to modify these badges so that they will use images from the game rather than the generic Fandom images. But that requires us uploading a heap of images that I can use (hint hint).
I will post up a link with a list of all the Badges you can earn ASAP.
There is also a Leaderboard where you will be able to see who has been making the most contributions over the month.
I like Stats. They tell me what sort of information people are the most interested in, and thus what area(s) we should try to focus on to attract more visitors and thus (hopefully) more contributors.
I’m yet to figure out how I see the stats on how many people are visiting the Wiki each month. So far I can only find a way to see how much people have visited the Wiki in the last 7 days, which is a bit poo.
Total visits in the last week: 4.7k
Most visits in a day: 970 (28 July)
Least visits in a day: 522 (22 July)
Top Ten Pages
These are the pages that attract the most visitors.
NEXT MONTH’S PROJECTS
Each SOS Assignment needs to have its own page. Ideally, we should use a template to display the tasks and rewards.
Please take a moment to create a page for the SOS Assignment you have active in your game.
Once we have pages created for the SOS Assignments, we can then have people list in the Hints and Tips section of the page some advice on how best to tackle the more difficult tasks.
Each Lesson should have its own page.
We will hopefully have a dynamic table listing all the lessons for each profession on an appropriate page.
We now have an Infobox for Confoundables (thanks Ferthi), now we need to create a page for each Confoundables. This will help people out when they need to get an item from a specific Confoundable, as it will help them to know which Foundables they protect/harass and thus which Family of Traces they should be looking out for.
Help Spread the Word!
This Wiki has the potential to be an amazing resource for everyone to use and to become better players, but we need as many people as possible donating some time to help contribute to it. Please help spread the word about this Wiki and get your fellow players to come and help add content.
Thanks for reading this far. Let me know if you found it helpful/interesting.
Which part of the Wiki do you want to see developed sooner rather than later? What do you want to know more about?
In the mean time...
If you see something wrong, fix it.
If you see something is missing, add it.
